"Walking on sunshine? More like walking on death shine!"
Members of Melbourne's melodic death metal band Orpheus Omega and its studio, Monolith, have partnered with the Australian creative commerce company VMLY&R to release a song about skin cancer awareness.
The new band is called Hellios, and they've put out the striking single, SUNNY DEATH METAL, with a music video to come.
"The sun is a fiery ball of death that rains cancer upon us and our children," the vocalist says over a dirty riff and pounding drums before growling, "HEED THESE WORDS".
A ripping guitar solo arrives before we're even a minute into the song because why not? The band then reminds us to "SLIP, SLOP, SLAP" over a screeching guitar. Then, it's time for the chorus sung in clean vocals: "The sun is not love; it's death from above / It's raining cancer down on us," before we return to the primary melody but with some extra little notes just when you know where the song is going.
Prior to the second chorus, Hellios hit us with the best line: "Walking on sunshine? More like walking on death shine," to blast beats.
The song ends, but the campaign begins. The last 20 seconds of the video state, "Skin cancer affects 16,000 people every year. 1,375 of those are expected to die.

"Please be safe in the sun and get yourself checked for demon dots."
SUNNY DEATH METAL, or "the first honest song about the sun," is a song with a message. We weren't kidding when we said this band might save your life.
The band's mission statement reads:
"There are too many love songs about the sun. This pro-sun propaganda makes people think the sun is friendly and nice.
"But that is a lie. The truth is the sun causes melanoma.
"Last year, more than 16,000 people were diagnosed, and 1375 are expected to die. Melanoma is the most common cancer for young Australians.
"No, the sun is not love. The sun is a fiery ball of death that rains cancer upon us.
"Check yourself and protect yourself. Heed this warning."
Hellios are currently selling DEATH BLOCKER SUNSCREEN on their website, with a DEATH METAL RASHIE, DEATH METAL BUCKET HAT, and COFFIN LILO coming soon.
SUNNY DEATH METAL has been played on triple j's metal programme, The Racket, and will surely be spun elsewhere soon.
