Kate Ceberano’s daughter, Gypsy Lee, is dropping her debut EP this year.
Announcing the release of the Pretty In The Dark EP on Instagram on Sunday (2 June), Lee revealed that her debut collection of songs was written and inspired by the challenges of her teenage years, and you can hear them all on Friday, 2 August. You can pre-order/pre-save the EP here.
In February, Gypsy Lee unveiled her powerful debut single, I Realised You Lied When You Said I Was No One. She followed that up with Runaway Baby, released in April, and the EP’s title track, which she dropped just days ago (31 May). Lee is setting herself up nicely for the release of a relatable EP, and it’s something her mum couldn’t be prouder of.
Taking to social media yesterday (3 June), Ceberano began a supportive post for her daughter by revealing the answer to a question she’s often asked about the music industry.
“People ask me, ‘how have things changed since you were in the business and what advice would you give your daughter?’” Ceberano wrote.

Answering that question, she continued, “I have to say watching her learning how the world looks and feels I’m am completely being educated. NOTHING is the same, everything is new and changes daily. She might have her L plates on (metaphorically) but this chick is driving her own car…
“Actually, What hasn’t changed is that it begins and ends with GREAT songs!!!! And my babes got em… Go you good thing! First EP!!!!!!!!!”
Last May, Kate Ceberano’s album My Life Is A Symphony hit the Top 10 of the ARIA Albums Chart following its release.
The album debuted at #6 on the ARIA Albums Chart and #2 on the Australian Albums Chart. My Life Is A Symphony is Ceberano’s 17th ARIA Top 50 album, including albums with her Septet, I’m Talking and Wendy Matthews. Ceberano has had seven Top 10 albums as a solo artist, including Brave, which peaked at #2 in 1989.
“Celebrating at Ceberano/Rogers household tonight with a lamb roast….caught mid-mouth-full with unexpected news - HOLY Shiiiiiiiiiit,” Ceberano wrote on Facebook. “Now we’re too excited to finish dinner!”
