Prince Estate Releases New Vault Track Originally By Celine Dion

A new track from the elusive, stacked vault of Prince has just been unveiled—and another big-name artist originally recorded it.

With This Tear, initially recorded by Celine Dion, has been released from Prince’s infamous musical vault via his NPG Records and Legacy Recordings. He performed, composed and produced all the instruments on the piano-led ballad, which he recorded at his studio, Paisley Park, in November 1991.

For the newly-released version, Grammy-nominated producer Chris James – who previously worked with Prince on multiple releases – has shared a new mix. You can check out the song below.

Consequence of Sound reports that Prince’s estate is gearing up to release a new vault album of material by the Purple Rain hitmaker, and this is just the beginning.

While Prince’s original version of the song hasn’t been heard until now, it has been heard in another fashion. After he wrote the song, the prolific musician and songwriter offered it to Celine Dion, who recorded her own version and featured it on her 1992 self-titled album.

Prince re-recorded With This Tear in 2001 at Paisley Park. Upon the re-recording, he intended for that version to be included on Milenia’s debut album, but it didn’t make the cut to the 2002 release of Our Story.

The Prince version of the track has arrived one day before the tenth anniversary of his passing.

In December 2024, a demo of a 1992 collaboration between Prince and Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue, titled Baby Doll, made its way online.

Minogue has previously claimed that her record label wasn’t interested in a version of Baby Doll completely produced by Prince, so she was never on an official recording of the song. She added that she thought the Prince Estate might have possessed a copy of the demo.

According to the YouTube description, Baby Doll was reportedly meant to be a Vault track recorded between 1990 and 1992 on a Diamonds And Love compilation. The Prince Estate was apparently set to release the collection in 2022.
