Pond Announce Australian Tour, New Album 'Stung!'

Beloved Australian psychedelic rock band Pond are back, today announcing a national tour and the release of their tenth album, Stung!

Stung! comprises 14 tracks—including the highly anticipated Edge Of The World Pt 3—and will be released via Spinning Top Records on Friday, 21 June. Today’s dual announcement is accompanied by the release of the groovy new single (I’m) Stung, following the January drop of the psych-rock single Neon River.

On (I’m) Stung, frontman Nicholas Allbrook stated: “I wrote most of this while mowing someone’s lawn. I went home and put my fingers on the piano and pretty much played the base of it first go. This is a very rare and special treat and buoyed me for weeks.

“It’s funny because I had a mad crush on someone, and they dropped me like a sack of shit, and this song just flew down and clocked me right in the forehead, and I felt totally better. Then Gin and Gum added all their magic - cool sounds, passing chords.

“It's about being totally pathetically stung by someone and just having to be cool with it being unrequited. Being resilient, accepting that you are a bit of a goose, but life goes on.”

The band’s upcoming tour takes place throughout June and July, with just one date ahead of the album’s release. Pond begin the Stung! tour at Hobart’s Altar on Saturday, 15 June, before heading to Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Thursday, 27 June, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre the following night, Brisbane’s Princess Theatre the next night, and wraps up at Freo.Social on Saturday, 6 July.

In addition to today’s announced dates, Pond will perform at Carriageworks as part of VIVID Sydney on Friday, 14 June, and appear at Splendour In The Grass on Saturday, 20 July.

Pre-sale tickets to the Stung! tour go on sale today at noon local time, with general sale tickets going on sale at midday tomorrow. You can find tickets via Frontier Touring – all shows are 18+.
