Gay Play Comes To Australia In Timely Fashion

1 May 2012 | 6:30 pm | Sally Anne Hurley

Revolving around California's controversial gay marriage Prop 8, the play hits shores in June.

The critically acclaimed play 8 will come to life here in Australia, with an impressive cast lined up.

Shane Jacobson, Lisa McCune, Daniel MacPherson, and Spencer McLaren will star in the production, which revolves around the US Federal Court's decision to strip gay and lesbian couples of the freedom to marry in California, known as Proposition 8.

Academy award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, known for his work on films like Milk and J. Edgar wrote the play. The production will be shown here in Sydney and Melbourne, to coincide with the senate's findings from the current enquiry on same sex marriage in Australia. Profits of the event will support the Australian Marriage Equality. Tickets are available through Showbiz and Ticketmaster.
