Allman and Betts will be joined by special guests Ally Venable and Larry McCray.
20-time Grammy nominee (and four-time winner) PJ Morton has joined the lineup for next year’s Byron Bay Bluesfest, alongside a special appearance from Allman Betts Family Revival.
The fourth artist announcement for Bluesfest 2024 was announced this morning (December 13). It marks both acts’ first time ever performing in Australia, joining a lineup that also includes the likes of Portugal. The Man, Ziggy Alberts and Snarky Puppy (as announced at the start of last month), Dan Sultan, Tim Finn and Ian Moss (as announced back in September), plus Jack Johnson, Tom Jones and The Teskey Brothers (as announced in August).
Allman and Betts’ appearance will be notably special, as the titular duo – Devon Allman and Duane Betts – will be joined by two exciting guests: Rustbelt blues shouter and guitarist Larry McCray, and Texan blues-rocker Ally Venable.
In a press release, Bluesfest director Peter Noble said of the latest additions to next year’s bill: “The Allman Brothers were pivotal in creating the Southern rock genre, and we can’t wait to hear this music played by their talented sons.
“PJ Morton is an artist who will shine at Bluesfest. He is one of the new generation of New Orleans artists taking on the world, and we can’t get enough of him. His 20 Grammy nominations and his wins every year for the past four years mark the emergence of a major artist of the future.”
Bluesfest 2024 will be held over five days at its usual home of the Byron Events Farm in Tyagarah, kicking off on Thursday March 28 and wrapping up on Monday April 1. Tickets are on sale now – find them here.
