"We did everything we could and tried until the very last minute..."

Based out of Montreal, Canada, Piknic Électronik announced last month that they'd be bringing two full seasons of diverse, world-class electronic shows to Melbourne and Sydney this January. Sadly, organisers have pulled the pin on the festival's inaugural Sydney season.

Organisers have provided a statement of the cancellation, emphasising that the Melbourne event would continue this year to the best of its ability.

"We are very disappointed to announce that for circumstances beyond our control, we have to cancel the 2016 season of Piknic Electronic Sydney. We did everything we could and tried until the very last minute, but unfortunately we had to come to the conclusion that it wasn’t possible.

"We were so excited to have a season in such a beautiful city and we are already working on a plan for the 2017 season.

"Rest assured, all of you who bought tickets will promptly be reimbursed via Resident Advisor. For the tickets holder of our flagship event with Jeff Mills and Derrick May on February 7, and we are working to keep the show, there will be more information about this early next week.

"Everyone who supported us this year will be the first notified and invited for free when we confirm that we’ll back for 2017!"

The open-air festival aimed to offer over 24 electronic music events through the unique residency through an entirely family-friendly environment.

Melbourne's 2016 season is due to kick off on 17 January until 3 April, with a full line-up due this week.
