French act Phoenix are set to release their fifth album, 'Bankrupt!' Due out April 19 in Australia - three days before the rest of the world will hear it
French indie rockers Phoenix are all set to release their fifth studio album, titled Bankrupt! Due out April 19 in Australia - three days before the rest of the world will hear it - it's the first album from the quartet since their Grammy award winning album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, released in 2009.
So far we've heard the first track and first single from the album, Entertainment. It's a smart sounding cut, driven by synths and the unmistakable vocal kindness that Thomas Mars delivers on their previous record. Like the rest of the album, it was mixed on the Harrison 4032 solid state recording console - the very same device made famous on Michael Jackson's record Thriller.
But as enjoyably infectious as the first single is, we're guaranteed that there's more to this record than a straight up - and - down pop record.

'This album has layers', explained guitarist Laurent Brancowitz, 'the more you listen, the more you hear, and the more you really understand what's going on.'
'At the same time', he goes on, 'we wanted it to be really fluid and simple like a sphere made of marble. You just see a sphere, but there's a guy who polished it for a year.'
The announcement comes as Phoenix reveal their first live performance in over two years, hopefully indicating that the group intend to tour the record down under in the not - too - distant - future.
