Fly By Night's home under threat
Reacting to the news that iconic Fremantle music venue Fly By Night is facing an unsure future, an online petition has been set up by venue management.
The National Trust WA – owners of the club's premises, the heritage-listed Drill Hall – plan to open up expressions of interest for the venue to third parties, meaning that Fly By Night will have to compete for its space.
Executive Director John Reid and the staff are fighting to keep the venue open and hope a petition will rally the community around them. To be sent to the WA State Government, the petition aims to “support the Fly By Night Musicians Club in its bid to remain in its current home, and to ensure it remains a part of the vibrant Fremantle arts community.”
“We, the undersigned, call on the State Government to support the Fly By Night Musicians Club in its bid to remain in its current home, and to ensure it remains a part of the vibrant Fremantle arts community,” it reads.
