Peter Garrett Reveals Details For New Album 'The True North', Announces Tour Dates

Australian music icon Peter Garrett is further solidifying his legend status in early 2024, announcing a new powerful album, The True North and accompanying tour with his band, The Alter Egos.

The fun happens in March 2024, but it begins today with new single Innocence Parts 1 & 2, following the release of the title track last week.

The True North will be released via Sony Music Australia on Friday, 15 March 2024. Recorded with his band The Alter Egos – starring Midnight Oil’s Martin Rotsey on guitar – the album is more interpersonal than listeners are used to.

“With the Oils, and even the first solo record, there was plenty of banging down the doors and speaking out about the things that need to change”, Garrett said in a press release. “There’s still a bit of that in this album too, of course, but generally, these songs are reflective of the special things we need to cherish: the natural world as well as our always spinning internal compass that helps us navigate the unruly passage of life.”

Being a Peter Garrett project, there’s still important calls to arms, but overall, The True North has been described as a “deeply personal reflection on his singular journey, drawing inspiration and sustenance from the living colours of Australia’s natural environment and the sights and sounds of modern Oz.”

In addition to Rotsey, the album is packed with Aussie music heroes, including Heather Shannon (The Jezabels) on piano and keys, Evan Mannell on drums, Rowan Lane on bass, Freya Schack-Arnott on cello and Ollie Thorpe on pedal steel. Two of Peter Garrett’s daughters, May and Grace, also sang on some of the key tracks. You can pre-order The True North here.

Peter Garrett and the Alter Egos commence their national True North tour in Canberra on Thursday, 14 March, before performing an album launch gig in Sydney, followed by concerts in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Cairns and Brisbane.
