West Australian musicians are about to be gifted with a new champion in their corner when presently east coast-based publishing company Perfect Pitch Publishing relocates its Sydney office to Perth.
Co-managing director Clive Hodson — who was born in Perth and has been involved in music since he was a young man, when he was still playing in bands — says the move is in reaction to the company identifying a need and opportunity among the west-coast market, with Perfect Pitch set to become the state's sole full-service music publishing company.
Hodson has no shortage of experience to help Perfect Pitch set up shop in his home state, having started in the industry with PolyGram Records back in 1978.
"I stayed with the company for 25 years before moving to the ABC as Head of ABC Music, and then running Shock Music Publishing," he said in a statement.
"I've always stayed in touch with WA music and continuously been blown away with the creativity and continuous success of artists."
"So, after 37 years in senior management positions with both the record and publishing sides of the business, I saw an opportunity to take that knowledge and expertise to help promote and develop WA music further," he continued.

Although Perfect Pitch will now be based on the west coast, Hodson assures the east coast that they will not escape the company's purview, with the industry veteran committed to making regular visits over Sydney way in addition to fulfilling his duties as Deputy Chairman of the Australasian Music Publishers Association (AMPAL) and as a non-executive director of the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS), in addition to his breadth of activity back in WA.
"My association with WAM, Perfect Pitch's involvement as a major sponsor of the WAM Song Of The Year competition, and recent sponsorship of the Fairbridge Festival Quest Youth Songwriting competition have been very rewarding for the company, and has allowed me to personally give back to a city and state that gave me my start," he said.
