Peking Duk have undoubtedly made Kai McPhan the coolest kid in school, playing the year ten formal for Wangaratta’s Cathedral College following Kai’s request.

Performing at the event on Thursday, October 24th, Peking Duk’s decision to bring their music to the regional city came about following an email sent their way earlier this month.

As posted on Instagram, McPhan emailed the duo with a polite request for them to serve as DJs for the formal he had been tasked with hosting. "I want it to be the sickest party and I know you guys will smash it so just think about and get back to me,” he wrote. “I can pay you if you want and also my sister has a massive speaker which should help.”

The duo shared the message on Instagram, noting they would do it if they received 50,000 likes. Though the post itself only has 46,000 likes (with another 8,000 on TikTok), the pair made good and took over the local football club to perform.

“Kai’s high school formal was such an insanely fun event! In all our years of DJing we’ve never seen kids go so wild and be so completely in the moment,” said Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles.

“It was probably one of the most refreshing events we've ever played and then afterwards they had gifts for us which was just so sweet. And of course Kai's sister Taya and her famous speaker were there.

“It was honestly the cutest event we’ve ever played,” they added. “Our hearts are so full. Kai, you're the best and thank you for creating such a unique experience for us. That was beautiful.”

“I’m still lost for words, still shocked about Adam and Reuben making time to come down to Wangaratta,” said McPhan after the event. “The atmosphere they brought with them was contagious; me and my friends loved every second of it and we are all still buzzing about it at school and cannot stop watching the videos we got of them.

“There aren’t words to describe how grateful and appreciative I am for Adam and Reuben making time to come down. I loved it!”

McPhan’s mother also chimed in, with Shannon Pizzini labelling Peking Duk as “true legends” for their generosity.

“The joy and excitement they have brought to Kai and all the kids is priceless,” she said. “Their electrifying personalities, energy, vibe, generosity and kindness made it a night none of us will ever forget and will keep us smiling for a long time to come.”

Peking Duk will attempt to try and recapture the high of playing the formal in Wangaratta as they continue current run of tour dates, with a performance at the Gold Coast 500 scheduled for tonight.
