The NSW indie rock/post-punk stalwarts will play gigs in Melbourne and Sydney for the occasion

More Peabody More Peabody

Illustrious post-punk indie rock mainstays Peabody are celebrating their 20th year together as a band with a pair of shows – one in Melbourne, one in their hometown of Sydney – next month.

Complementing the gig announcement is the news they will be joined at Yah Yah's, Melbourne, on June 6 by The Barebones and Motel Love, with Further and Spod providing support action at Sydney's The Roller Den (Imperial Hotel) on June 13.

Further, who are long-time friends of the Peabody crew, are a particularly special treat, given their selectiveness these days when it comes to playing – they're generally wont to only bust out their six-strings and so on when an international act rolls through town, so their appearance with Peabody should give you some kind of indication of the gravitas they are affording the celebration.

Peabody's long and storied history has seen highs, lows, line-up changes and reinvigorations that have yielded the release of highly regarded work such as “classic line-up”-era albums Professional Againster (2002) and The New Violence (2005), as well as more recent gems Prospero (2008) and Loose Manifesto (2010).

Having played alongside acts of note such as You Am I, Youth Group and Hoodoo Gurus, as well as appearing at festivals such as Big Day Out, Homebake and Livid during their fifth-of-a-century together, Peabody appear to have lost very little of the energy and vitality that helped make them one of Sydney's enduring indie fixtures.

The shows will feature both the current four-piece line-up as well as “Peabody classic” – its three-piece iteration featuring previous drummer Graeme Trewin (1999-2007). Peabody will also play an unrelated show, supporting The Fauves, at The Workers Club, Fitzroy, on Saturday, June 7.

Check the band's website and stay in the loop with their Facebook and Twitter feeds for more booking and ticketing information as it is announced.
