Fans of the heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne will get to honour him with a procession that will pass through his home city of Birmingham today.

Taking place at 1 pm BST (10 pm AEST), the City of Birmingham council will pay its final respects to the singer as a hearse and accompanying vehicles make their way down Broad Street to Black Sabbath bridge and bench, where fans have been paying tribute since Osbourne’s passing last week.

The hearse and vehicles will be accompanied by a live brass band – local musicians in Bostin’ Brass will provide a musical moment to honour the iconic Ozzy Osbourne.

The Osbourne family will cover the associated costs of the procession organised by the City and its partners.

As the event is expected to draw large crowds throughout the day, in addition to his family and friends having the opportunity to be amongst the tributes, Broad Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 am. Buses and trams will be diverted during this time, while local access will be managed where possible, but can’t be guaranteed. Broad Street will reopen after the event.

For those who can’t attend the farewell event, streams from the Black Sabbath bench will be available via the band’s website.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, Osbourne’s family will host a small, private funeral soon that’s been described as “a celebration of his life. Ozzy would never want a mope-fest.”

Ozzy Osbourne died on 22 July 2025 – just seventeen days after taking to the stage for the final time at Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning farewell concert in the band’s home of Birmingham. His death was confirmed by his family, who wrote in a statement:

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family's privacy at this time.”

No cause of death was provided, though Osbourne’s health battles in recent years, including with Parkinson’s Disease, were well-documented. He died aged 76.

His passing continues to cause shockwaves in the music industry, with artists and bands including Metallica, Yungblud, Evanescence, Judas Priest, Fall Out Boy, Halestorm, Elton John, and many others paying tribute to the Prince of Darkness.
