PARKLIFE2012-3

With the year halfway through, it’s time to start thinking about which acts will head to our shores for the annual Parklife festival. Everybody loves rumours so we thought we’d put on our thinking caps and make some educated guesses for the 2013 line up, which last year was officially announced on June 19th (yes, that's next week!).

Providing we're accurate, we’ll see the following artists pay us a visit for the festival, which is no doubt already in the itineraries of most Australian electronic music fans.

DISCLOSURE

This one is quite obvious, with Guy Lawrence from the band confirming to Triple J that they’ll definitely be coming back this year to play their own shows and some festivals. Around the new year period, we got to witness their live show at Summadayze and Summafieldayze but since then, they’ve released a killer album which managed to score a massive 9.1/10 on Pitchfork.

At the rate they’re going, I think they could even be possible headliners for the bill this year. Australian writer Mikey Cahill also revealed on Twitter that DISCLOSURE will be playing Parklife in 2013. I'd say we can lock them in!

TNGHT (Australian Live Debut)

Fuzzy, the organisers behind Parklife, took LUNICE on a huge 7 date Australian/New Zealand tour in February this year. His co-collaborator, HUDSON MOHAWKE also made a visit for Sydney's Field Day.

After playing live sets all over the world, I think it’s certainly time for the duo to make their debut Australian appearance as TNGHT.

SOULWAX (New Live Show)

The Dewaele brothers, who are known to most people as 2MANYDJS, are no strangers to Australia. Leading up to their Harbourlife appearance late last year, I quizzed them in a Purple Sneakers interview about a future SOULWAX tour. Their response indicated that it was going to happen once their new album was finished.

With a bit of luck, they’ll be back at Parklife to showcase it this year!

ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI

Modular Records have always bonded strongly with Parklife. Last year, local heroes THE PRESETS returned to the touring circuit, headlining the festival after the release of their third album ‘Pacifica’.

Previous years have also seen K.I.M. (2007) MUSCLES (2007), VAN SHE (2008), VAN SHE TECH (2008), BENI (2009), THE RAPTURE (2009), NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB (2010), THE SWISS (2010), BAG RAIDERS (2008/2010), TAME IMPALA (2012), ROBYN (2012) and SOFTWAR (2012). ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI are releasing a new album this year so there’s a good chance they’ll be on the bill!

CLASSIXX (Australian Live Debut)

Like Modular, Future Classic are another one of the record labels/touring agencies who've had a strong relationship with Fuzzy over the years. CLASSIXX DJ'ed at Sydney Festival's Future Classic party in January this year and have just released their debut album 'Hanging Gardens'.

I think it's the perfect time for the pair to return for a live set, which they've been performing overseas while supporting THE PRESETS.

DU TONC (Australian Debut)

Matt Van Schie and disco producer/DJ MIGHTY MOUSE are well on their way to success, having released two singles so far this year, with a third one on its way. They're also just started up their own record label known as 'NIGHTFILM'.

This week they'll be debuting their part live, part DJ show at Social Club in Paris. When we interviewed Matt last month, he filled us in on what their performance consisted of and it sounded like a lot of fun. They're almost definitely touring Australia sometime this year and I think Parklife would be the most appropriate place for that to happen in. I suggested the idea to MIGHTY MOUSE via Twitter and got a response of “that would be nice :)”, so it appears as though they're quite keen as well.

CRYSTAL FIGHTERS

To many people, CRYSTAL FIGHTERS were seen to many people as a highlight of the 2011 Parklife. Late last month they released their second album 'Cave Rave' and after being absent from the Splendour In The Grass line up when they were well tipped to play, I'm placing my bets on another stellar appearance at Parklife.

JOHN TALABOT (Australian Live Debut)

JOHN TALABOT played DJ sets at Laneway Festival on the Future Classic stage just last year, but Australia are still yet to see his amazing live show, which he has been performing with PIONAL at some of the world's biggest festivals over the past 12 months or so. During the last few years at Parklife, Future Classic have presented to us CLASSIXX (2010), HOLY GHOST! (2010), TENSNAKE (2011), SEBASTIEN TELLIER (2011), LITTLE DRAGON (2011) and FLUME (2012), so it'll be no surprise if we see JT hit the stage in 2013!

OUR OTHER PREDICTIONS:

WORLD END’S PRESS, WHAT SO NOT, ADAPT OR DIE, JAGWAR MA, RUFUS, PANAMA, TOUCH SENSITIVE, COSMO'S MIDNIGHT

UPDATE: 12/06/13

CUT COPY

Australian indie electronic outfit CUT COPY have just played a new song called 'Explorers' live at the Governor’s Ball festival in New York. With obviously more new material on the rise, this could be a hint that we'll see them headlining Parklife. The band played the festival in 2010 to make a long awaited return to live touring. There have also been whispers about them being in the final mixing stages of their new album in New York, which is supposely due out around October. Could we see another Modular heavy line up for 2013? That definitely appears to be the case!
