More Orsome Welles More Orsome Welles

Melburnian experimental/prog-rock foursome Orsome Welles have announced the release date for their eagerly awaited new EP, Rise, alongside an accompanying run of national tour dates through June and July.

Rise will land in late May, a week before the band kick off their seven-show sojourn with a spot at Warrnambool's Arockalypse Festival on Sunday 11 June.

The expectation-defying ensemble then heads up to Brisbane and across Perth before heading back through Adelaide, up to Sydney and then through Canberra on the way home to Melbourne for their final show at The Evelyn on Saturday 8 July.

Given their increasing renown for unmissable live shows — a reputation built over several outings alongside everyone from Trivium, Seether and The Ocean to Twelve Foot Ninja, Caligula's Horse, Circles and more — you'd be doing yourself a massive disservice to not get along to one of these shows if you're able.

The EP itself comes after an extended period of building excitement, stoked last year with the release of singles Build A World and Maestro, which would have turned heads even without their distinctive video clips (produced by lauded Brisbane filmmaker Adrian Goleby) to help.

Part and parcel of that is the band's organic growth and development, reinforced by the fact that, by frontman Michael Stowers' own admission, the band shook up the process somewhat in creating the new extended player.

"For Rise, we took a different approach based on how we wanted the end product to sound," Stowers said in a statement. "We focused on pre-production, and we think it is evident in the sound being a lot more reflective of our live show.

"We feel that Rise resembles where we are as a band, refreshed with new songs but still inspired by our original sound. We are seriously passionate about making music together, and Rise is the microcosmic baby of our passion."

The EP, which is the follow-up effort to 2014's debut Erth News Bulletin, was brought to life with the additional assistance Matt D'Arcy and Basin Productions, who produced, mixed and recorded the release, while Steve Smart — of Sydney's Studios 301 — did the mastering.

Rise will be released on Friday 26 May. See the band's website for more info.
