The event took place at Melbourne's iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl today.
Melbourne's music industry gathered to celebrate International Women's Day with One Of One's annual breakfast event.
Last year's event represented one of the city and industry's last significant events, with the impact of COVID-19 felt at the event today.
Held at the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl, the breakfast featured performances from Thando & Sunburnt Soul Choir and The Merindas, with DJ sets from Sophie McAlister. Legendary promoter Michael Gudinski was honoured with speeches from Mushroom Group's Linda Bosidis and Susan Heymann.
Musician and doctor Gordi was this year's keynote speaker, speaking of her experiences working in both fields during the COVID-19 pandemic. "The two industries I worked in would be hardest hit, in very different ways," she shared.
Bakehouse Studios owner Helen Marcou AM announced a new bursaries series for women and non-binary musicians. The bursaries offer fully-supported studio time that will be offered quarterly as "ten quick-release bursaries for rehearsal packages to encourage and invest in greater participation of women in live performance, creation of new work, collaboration and skills development".
Melbourne musician Bonnie Mercer was announced as the first recipient saying, “Thank you so much Bakehouse! I look forward to having the time and access to an inspiring space to expand my personal artistic practice, and to forge new and existing collaborations". Applications for the bursaries are now open, head here for more information.
