The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In guitarist is heading down for a capital city tour, including co-headlining Cherry Rock Festival
Prog nuts and afro-lovers alike will be rejoicing at today's announcement of Australian tour dates for Omar Rodriguez Lopez. The neo-prog auter will be bringing his band down for a run of capital city dates in November and December and will co-headline Melbourne's Cherry Rock festival.
For anyone that's known and loved his sonic wizardry of in the post-hardcore legends At The Drive-In or the concept-album wrangling behemoth The Mars Volta, Rodriguez Lopez's musical credentials require no further introduction. His solo work borrows sounds from the 60s and 70s musical fringe, including art rock, kraut, jazz fusion and experimental electronica and fans can expect him to bring this potent prog brew to Australian stages. His solo work has previously attracted some of best talent in experimental and progressive music, including the venerable Can singer Damo Suzuki and the drum wunderkind Thomas Pridgen.
Never one to stand still, Rodriguez Lopez has been prolific as a label manager, actor, producer, and film director and his diverse interests are evident in his passionate and eclectic musical vision. Tour dates as follows and tickets are on sale from Monday 1 October:
