NZ Rapper Scribe Reportedly Hands Himself In To Police On Alleged Drug & Weapon Offences

New Zealand rapper Scribe (real name Malo Luafutu) has reportedly handed himself in to police after being accused of weapon and drugs-related offences. 

As Stuff reports, a warrant for the arrest of the 38-year-old hip hop artist was issued after he failed to appear in Christchurch District Court last month.

Luafutu was arrested in Christchurch in April with charged with possession of an offensive weapon (a bat), possession of Class A drug amphetamine, and possession of a pipe for using amphetamine.

The arrest reportedly came only days after he announced publicly he would be entering rehab relating to addiction issues; see the Instagram statement, posted in March, below.

Police said in a statement today, "Malo Luafutu has made contact with the court in regard to his outstanding warrant to arrest. He has been instructed to return to the Porirua District Court [on Thursday]. Luafutu is no longer wanted".

Luafutu rose to fame in 2003 with his debut album, The Crusader, which peaked at #1 in his home country and has since been certified five times platinum.

Tracks from the album, including Stand Up, Not Many and Dreaming, were all hits on the New Zealand and Australian charts.
