The judges have found their 45 acts across nine genre categories
Territorian industry body MusicNT has announced the finalists for this year's coveted NT Song Of The Year Awards.
The judging process was an “extremely difficult” one, according to a statement from the body. More than 340 songs were entered for 2014, with the ultimate pool of finalists comprising 45 of those across nine genre categories including Rock, Pop, Folk, Electronic/Dance, Heavy, Country, Urban/Hip-hop, Blues and Roots, and School-aged.
Bands and artists from across the NT have been shortlisted for the awards, with a few names popping up multiple times: members of the Tjintu Desert Band are well represented, as is solo artist Ben Allen, aka Broadwing; Darwin-based country singer Jenni Boon is nominated twice in the Country category, while rising troubadour and 2013 award-winner Gareth Dawkins finds himself quite literally all over the shop, from the Folk to Blues and Roots to Pop categories.
The annual NT Song Of The Year Awards are designed to celebrate and recognise the breadth of musical talent in the Northern Territory. The winners for 2014's event will be revealed at the awards night on Saturday, June 28, during the Original Recipe Music Festival.

In addition to the main ceremony, the Song Of The Year Awards runs a People's Choice competition (open now), which allows the general public the chance to vote on their favourite finalist tracks. The winner of the People's Choice comp will be announced in July, at the intune alice music conference.
