Iconic Aus Theatre Transformed Into Live Music Venue

"It's just perfect for live performance."

Melbourne will soon be blessed with yet another incredible live music venue and multi-purpose space with a team of industry figures preparing a renovation on the Northcote Theatre

The Edwardian Baroque-era theatre will be transformed into a multi-function precinct which will include a 1,500 capacity live music and performance auditorium, a mezzanine cocktail bar, a rooftop bar, an Italian style trattoria and boutique wine bar.

Established in June of 1912, the Northcote Theatre is one of the earliest surviving picture theatres in Victoria.

The operator of the venue, Andrew Mansfied, expressed his excitement for the refurbishment: "The theatre is versatile, it's a welcome freedom to be able to explore all the different ways the space can be used to facilitate people connecting with the arts."

Booker Ben Thompson added: "The theatre is a grand and ornate space, purpose-built to host entertainment and right in the heart of Northcote. The new leaseholders have uncovered a sweeping tiered mezzanine and there are direct stage sightlines from anywhere in the theatre, it's just perfect for live performance."

Construction will commence in early 2022, and conclude mid-year with a heap of talent already confirmed to perform.
