The 1975 vocalist Matty Healy unwittingly started a feud with Noel Gallagher when he spoke about Oasis reuniting, with Gallagher calling the singer/guitarist a “slack-jawed fuckwit” in a new interview with Spin.
Promoting the latest album with his band the High Flying Birds, Council Skies, the topic of an Oasis reunion inevitably made it into conversation, and so did Healy’s recent comments.
In February, Healy was featured in an interview on Q with Tom Power, where he said the band needed to “stop messing around”, “grow up”, and “headline Glastonbury”.
He added, “Can you imagine being in potentially – right now, still – the coolest band in the world, and not doing it because you’re in a mard with your brother?”
And the comment that likely really pissed off Noel Gallagher? “There’s not one kid, not one person, going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig that would not rather be at an Oasis gig.”
When Spin’s Daniel Kohn asked Gallagher if he’d heard Healy’s comments, he responded, "Oh, that fucking slack-jawed fuckwit. What did he say?"

After Kohn shared the above comment, to which Gallagher labelled The 1975 “shit” and said, "He would never be able to imagine it [being in “the coolest band in the world”]. He needs to go over how shit his band is and split up."
Earlier this week, Liam and Noel Gallagher put a pin in Oasis reunion rumours, after a source supposedly close to Noel told The Sun that the band were planning epic gigs at Knebworth.
Since that news broke, Noel called Liam “disingenuous”, and Liam called Noel a “coward” and a “bellend”.
When The 1975 were in Australia last month, Healy told an enthusiastic Brisbane audience that he inspired the main rat character in the 2006 animated film, Flushed Away. The Music filmed Healy’s speech, which you can view here.
Healy told the crowd, “The reason I’ve not said anything about it is because - listen, the reason I’m successful is because of this fucking brilliant band,” [audience applauds and cheers]. He added, “Guys, you know my parents are actors, so… my mother is an actress. She’s a legend. Give it up for Mum.
“Her godfather [Ian La Frenais] is a producer, and he produces movies, and I wasn’t actually close with him until I was probably about 14 years old or something like that,” Healy shared.
“But anyway, he was looking for inspiration for a movie he was producing called Flushed Away [laughs], so it is genuinely based on me.
"I know that seems ridiculous, but if you do enough internet research, you’ll be able to find out that that’s true. So they did a good job; maybe I am officially a fucking rat.” Healy continued to chug some wine out of his trusty bottle, telling a story he knew the audience in Brisbane would love.
