But Áine Tyrrell is stepping in

More Ngaiire More Ngaiire

With all of a day to go until the second Rock & Roll Writers Festival hits the Old Museum in Brisbane, organisers have had to work some magic to replenish their line-up after singer-songwriter NGAIIRE was forced to cancel her scheduled appearance.

According to a statement from organisers, "NGAIIRE is unable to travel and won't make the Brisbane festival this weekend".

"On behalf of NGAIIRE and the festival, apologies for the late notice; we hope to make it up to you next year," they said.

However, it's not all bad news for people planning to attend this year's event, as Irish-Australian songstress Áine Tyrrell is stepping in to fill the gap left by NGAIIRE's cancellation.

Tyrrell undertook a two-month tour of the east coast and Tasmania in late 2016 through early this year, which she dubbed 'Dream A New Dream', inspired by a quote from her grandmother.

"From the west coast of Ireland to south-west Victoria, Nana's words ring out true through cloudy days, hailstorms, buildings collapsing around you, and through the sun shining in front of you," Tyrrell said at the time. "Sometimes we just need a little reminder to dust ourselves off and shine again. A little reminder that it's time to dream a new dream."

She'll be joining the 'Can't Get There From Here' panel at 5.20pm on Saturday.

The 2017 Rock & Roll Writers Festival will be held on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April at the Old Museum. Entry is free to the bar, but panels are ticketed. And definitely going ahead.

"Despite the crazy weather, we’re all ready to roll and it’s all systems go," the festival's statement read. "So, get out of the house and come hang with us."
