We captured all the behind-the-scenes 'magic' as journalist Simon Eales made his TV cop show debut in Bingo Unit as a part of this year's Next Wave Festival.

Sydney-based performance group Team Mess have created the interactive Bingo Unit project for the current Next Wave Festival in Melbourne.

Team Mess's Malcolm Whittaker says that Bingo Unit parodies, to some extent, TV shows like Law And Order.

“It is a participatory film shoot... another crime drama,” Whittaker explains, during a break from filming the 'Discovery Of The Body' scene in the Collingwood Underground Arts Park.

The group have now wrapped up filming of the 'Discovery Of The Body', 'She's Dead', 'The Stakeout', 'The Brief' and 'The Chase' scenes at very locations around inner city Melbourne, utilising volunteer participants to act out the 'pilot' script.

Each day's shooting involved the filming of one particular scene multiple times with the different 'actors'.

The next part of the project is “to screen this material as a back-lot tour.”

The screenings and backlot tours happen at 7pm from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 May at Arts House: Meat Market.
