One of the main areas of the iconic GLASTONBURY festival is turning to virtual reality to still treat their punters. The Shangri-La area is set to launch a new VR music festival which will take place the weekend after the festival was meant to be celebrating its 50th anniversary, and they've tapped some major names to kick off in style.
Titled 'Lost Horizon', the festival is going down on July 3rd and 4th and is set to be a two-day event with over fifty performances spread throughout four stages — three of which will be replicas from the IRL Shangri-La stages: The Gas Tower, Freedom Stage, and SHITV. Punters can expect sets from the likes of Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, John Digweed, Sasha, ANNA, Peggy Gou and many more. With an aim to become "the world's largest independent music and arts festival in virtual reality," this is certainly an unprecedented event for equally unprecedented times.
No VR accessibility? No worries! Those wanting to still take part in Lost Horizon "will be able to stream it online for a 'regular viewing' and they'll also be able to explore the festival in games mode," according to a PR statement.
"Anyone with a VR headset will actually be able "enter" the festival, take a wander around the festival site and stages and even meet up with friends who are there in their avatar forms."
While the event is free, those attending are heavily encouraged to donate to the festival's chosen charities, Amnesty International and The Big Issue. The stream will be spread across four channels to represent the stages, and will be hosted on YouTube and Twitch. For all the info, head HERE.
