Caribou has announced the release of a forthcoming collection of remixes lifted from his celebrated and acclaimed 2020 album, 'Suddenly'.
Twelve months after the release of his acclaimed album Suddenly, Caribou (Dan Snaith) has announced the forthcoming release of a collection of remixes by some of his favourite artists. We've already heard offerings from Four Tet, Four Tet, Floating Points, India Jordan, Shanti Celeste, Logic1000, Morgan Geist and Kareem Ali, and today we receive another courtesy of Koreless. Still to come as per Caribou's announcement are reworks from Toro Y Moi, Jessy Lanza and Prince Nifty.
In an in depth interview with Purple Sneakers in February 2020, Snaith spoke to us about the intimacy and themes of Suddenly. He opened up, saying, "Obviously the theme of the record is there’s these sudden or unexpected things in my personal life and the life of my family in the last five years like divorce or my dad went through a health crisis, like difficult personal things and things that happened completely out of the blue in a dislocating, disorienting way."
"That, I think to some degree, is why the music has this kind of disorienting quality to it where the rug is pulled out from under the listener over and over again. When I say that out loud, and when I think about the last five years of our collective life as citizens of this world particularly for me living in the UK but also for lots of other places, it mirrors our lived experience in the political and cultural world as well."
Snaith said of the collection, "Sometimes remixes are commissioned to be marketing tools or to make the music functional in a club. But for me there's only one reason to get remixes done: because I'm a giddy fan of the remixer."

"Looking down the tracklisting of this remix album, it's a thrill to see a list of producers whose music I find so inspiring collected there - some are established artists, some are just starting out; some i messaged, begging a remix, right after coming across their music for the first time and some are dear friends whose music I've loved for a while - but in every case I feel very lucky to hear their music and mine connected on this remix album."
