New Hungry Kids Of Hungary Album To Drop Next Year

A fresh slab of catchy tunes from the indie-pop wunderkinds will be coming atcha early next year.

Those indie-pop dudes with a fetish for alliteration, Hungry Kids of Hungary, have just announced the release date for their highly-anticipated second record, You're A Shadow, which will be released on February 22, 2013.

The album's lead single, 'Sharp Shooter' had a blisteringly good run on jjj, with the next single 'Twin Cities' looking set to repeat that performance as 2012 comes to a close.

With their debut enjoying critical and commercial acclaim, the band might have been feeling the need to beat that infamous sophomore slump. Enlisting some of the best to bring their latest vision to life, Hungry Kids of Hungary recorded You're A Shadow at the venerable Alberts Studios in Sydney with veteran producer Wayne Connolly (whose resumé includes The Vines, Silverchair, You Am I and Josh Pyke) manning the desk.

Speaking of the band's new tunes, vocalist and guitarist Dean McGrath describes an approach where they tried to split the difference between ambitious songwriting and homage to classic sounds:

'The songs are more forward-thinking but the production approach is more steeped in the traditions of the classic records from the 60s that we've grown up with. The arrangements are leaner and meaner, but it's all been captured in a way that it sounds bigger than anything we've done before.'

Fans can expect the band to hit the road hard – both nationally and internationally – after You're A Shadow drops next year.
