Chart Wrap: Adele Takes The Crown While Sinatra Claims TikTok & More

3 December 2021 | 12:00 pm | Staff Writer

It's been a big week for Australian radio!

In the first week of charts here on TheMusic.com.au we've seen some big moves as radio starts to chill the beers and add the Christmas turkeys.

As we get closer to the end of the year, the jostling for the top spot on the radio charts continues to heat up, with Adele firmly planted in the #1 position with Easy On Me, but Elton John & Dua Lipa continue to stalk just behind with their previous #1 hit Cold Heart.

The biggest winner this week is Niall Horan, who leaps up 23 places with Everywhere, but you know it's December when Mariah Carey starts stalking, re-entering for about the bajillionth Christmas in a row at #49 with All I Want For Christmas. Expect that to rise in the coming weeks.

Over on TikTok, Christmas has come early and seemingly even more retro, with Frank Sinatra taking out the #1 position on the Viral 12 with Let It Snow! Let It Snow!. There's a thesis in that somewhere about what's going on in the world, but we'll leave that to others while we celebrate the big move from RUMOR in at #2 which mirrors their Hot 50 entry with Running Away. With both radio and TikTok popping off, expect that this won't be the last we see of this one.

Over on the Countrytown Hot 50, we've got some big new entries from Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, James Johnson and Thomas Rhett, but it's Keith Urban spending another week at the top with Wild Hearts. Looks like the fight for the Christmas #1 in country-land will be between Urban and Casey Barnes, who reclaims the #2 position with former #1 God Took His Time On You

Shouse has taken a step up to the crown on the Aussie 20 this week, knocking The Kid LAROI from the position many thought he might never leave, while triple j was vibing on Lazy Eyes with Fuzz Jam as their most-heard record of the week.

The National Indigenous Music Chart has The Kid LAROI still firmly entrenched in the top spot, but this week Jessica Mauboy has knocked So Done out of the #2 position for the first time since July. Already proving to be a multi-format smash, can Mauboy knock the Kid off the top for Christmas?

Tune in next week to find out and click here for the full charts.
