More Jen Cloher More Jen Cloher

This year’s Winter Sounds festival in regional Victoria looks positively stacked, with the idyllic Daylesford region (some 90km northwest of Melbourne) hosting intimate shows from Jen Cloher, Mo’Ju, Gareth Liddiard and more. Our mates at Mountain Goat Beer are particularly stoked on the program – so much so, they’re giving one lucky legend (and a mate of their own) the chance to win a trip out to catch the action for themselves.

The full prize – valued at more than $1,500 – includes a double pass to four events on the Winter Sounds 2023 program (more on those in a sec), two nights of accomodation at the Hotel Bellinzona in Hepburn Springs, and a $100 bar tab to spend on delicious Mountain Goat beers at each show.

Should you be the winner of this life-affirming experience (and the Friend Of The Year award for 2023), you’ll kick things off on Friday August 18, watching Jen Cloher melt hearts at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The following day (August 19), you’ll gain entry to not one but two enormous shows – a 1pm matinee from Watty Thompson (supported by Leah Senior) at the Town Hall in Clunes, followed by a nighttime show by Mo’Ju and Coda Chroma at the Town Hall in Daylesford.

Wrapping up the weekend to end all weekends will be a show headlined by Gareth Liddiard (of The Drones and Tropical Fuck Storm fame) and opened by Jess Ribeiro, going down at Bullarto Hall on Sunday August 12. To get there, you’ll take a train from the Spa Country Railway – a journey that comes with its own stellar views.

To enter the competition, you’ll need to head here and let us know in 25 words or less, why do you want to celebrate with Winter Sounds and Mountain Goat?

Entries are open now and will run until 11:59pm on Wednesday August 2. If you win (and believe us, we’re all rooting for you – yes, you), you’ll find out the next day. The only caveats are that you’ve got to be a Victorian resident aged 18 or older to enter – understandable, since you’ll be slamming cold ones all weekend – and you’ll have to sort your own transport out across the weekend. You can find the full list of terms and conditions here.

In a press release, festival director Dave Frazer said: “Winter Sounds is about providing audiences with the opportunity to experience extraordinary performances in extraordinary spaces, and we are so excited to be rugging up and returning to the Daylesford region this Winter.”
