Some of Australia’s best emerging and established First Nations artists have been recognised at the National Indigenous Music Awards, with Mojo Juju and Baker Boy winning big at tonight’s event.
Following the release of her acclaimed Native Tongue LP last year, Mojo Juju was awarded Album Of The Year and Song Of The Year, the latter going to the record’s title track, while Baker Boy was named Artist Of The Year.
New Talent Of The Year was awarded to Kaiit, while Briggs’ Life Is Incredible clip – directed by Dylan River – claimed Film Clip Of The Year and Deni Mob’s State Of The Heart picked up Community Clip Of The Year.
Folk trio Tiddas and singer Wilma Reading were inducted into National Indigenous Music Awards' Hall Of Fame and the first-ever recipient of the Archie Roach Foundation Award was New Talent Of The Year nominee Mambali, who will receive $2000 as well as dedicated mentoring from industry professionals.
Hosted at Darwin’s iconic Amphitheatre, the event saw performances from Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy, Dan Sultan, Electric Fields, Tasman Keith and more with Baker Boy making a surprise appearance onstage during triple j Unearthed winner Dallas Woods’ set to perform Black Magic.
