Venerated Aussie singer-songwriter Missy Higgins has announced a run of special concerts throughout early 2016, naming Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey as her support for her impending show at Twilight At Taronga (on 13 February), among other performances.

Higgins' solo tour — her first since late 2014, so count us as pretty stoked by all this — gets under way following her Twilight At Taronga performance, with a one-off special concert-hall show at Melbourne's iconic Hamer Hall on Wednesday 17 February, also supported by Dempsey. On Sunday 21 February, she'll appear at Echuca's annual Riverboats Music Festival, popping up once more on Saturday 19 March (again with Dempsey) at Tasmania's Skyfields. She'll round out the sojourn at Mornington's Peninsula Picnic on Sunday 20 March.

Higgins released her fourth studio (and first covers) album, Oz, last year, which, incidentally enough, opened with a cover of Something For Kate's well-regarded cut You Only Hide, and featured reimagined works by the likes of Paul Kelly, Dan Sultan, The Drones, The Go-Betweens,The Angels, Warumpi Band and more. Her previous full-length, The Ol' Razzle Dazzle, manifested a couple of years prior, in 2012, making its debut on the ARIA charts at #1 — her third consecutive LP to do the trick, seeing her tie with Kylie Minogue, Olivia Newton-John and Delta Goodrem for the shared honours of boasting the second-highest number of Australian #1 albums. All of that, however arguably pales with her newest challenge — that of motherhood — but she's nonetheless stoked to be getting back out on the road.

"For the whole of this year, I've been experiencing life as a first-time mum, and it's been incredible, but I really can't wait to get out of the house and play a few songs," Higgins said in a statement. "I've actually been writing a lot of songs lately, so I'm looking forward to trying a few of them out at these gigs along with all the others, of course.

"Either way, it'll be nice to sing something other than Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star for a change!"
