Midweek Chart Report: 'As You Were, Then...'

17 October 2012 | 1:35 pm | Scott Fitzsimons

Pink and Psy look certain to hold their spots despite strong local releases

Chances are it will be, 'As you were', for the top spots in this week's charts with Pink and Psy looking likely to retain their positions according to midweek figures.

Pink's The Truth About Love continues to sell extremely well as next year's mammoth arena tour continues to add show after show. It's unlikely that the likes of Birdy or Mumford & Sons will be able to take the top spot from her in the ARIA Albums Chart, nor strong debuts from local acts.

Guy Sebastian has a strong lead-in to the release of Armageddon thanks to single Battle Scars, which topped the singles chart, but it's not quite in Pink territory. There's also been solid starts to the week for triple j's Like A Version and Lisa Mitchell's Bless This Mess. Urthboy's Smokey's Haunt has been garnering rave reviews all week and could well find itself well up the charts if the vibe keeps growing throughout the week.

Korea's world beating popstar Psy is in the country at the moment and that means that Gangnam Style is showing no signs of slowing whatsoever. Pink and Birdy (who we're starting to think is rueing her release schedule for both album and single) are familiar challengers, but new track Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris and Florence Welch is proving to be a bullet performer in the midweek figures and is aimed at a top five entry.
