"What year is it again?”

More Midnight Oil More Midnight Oil

Aussie legends Midnight Oil have claimed their fifth #1 album in Australia with RESIST and have used their resulting time in the spotlight to call out local content rules.

As highlighted by the band, only four other Aussie artists feature on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart Top 40, and none of those are in the Top 10.

The Kid LAROI’s F*ck Love (Over You) sits at #13, while Methyl Ethel debut at #22 with Are You Haunted?, followed by INXS (#35) and Tame Impala (#36).

"Thanks to everyone who’s supported RESIST- we greatly appreciate it - but we’re shocked that INXS and ourselves are among only five Australian Artists with top 40 albums this week. What year is it again?” the band said.

“We’ve been fortunate to have some great media support, particularly from the ABC and Triple M, but clearly the federal government needs to introduce better local content rules - and better enforcement of those rules - across all platforms to make sure that the next generation of local artists get a fair go."

RESIST is also only the second Australian #1 album on the ARIA charts in 2022.
