Melvins Frontman King Buzzo Announces Solo Aussie Tour

The legendary muso will play nine shows here in August

The illustrious Buzz Osborne, aka King Buzzo, has announced that he will be heading Down Under this August for a nine-date solo acoustic tour.

Despite his commanding a career that has lasted more than three decades, 30 albums and thousands of live performances, this will be King Buzzo's first such Australian tour of this ilk, although he is no stranger to local fans of his seminal band Melvins, who played here as recently as last year.

In addition to his work with Melvins, who last year released 19th studio full-length Tres Cabarones, King Buzzo has been keeping busy with Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo and Trevor Dunn in the experimental supergroup Fantômas.

The varied and challenging compositions to which King Buzzo has been party over his career might paint this acoustic solo tour as somewhat unexpected, but it comes on the eve of the May 30 release of his debut acoustic LP This Machine Kills Artists, and forms a neat sense of confluence around King Buzzo's creative process, with the frontman writing the “vast majority” of Melvins tracks on acoustic guitar before the switch to electric. The vibe at which he arrives on This Machine Kills Artists, he has said, falls somewhere between folk and heavy metal – “It's 'molk', how 'bout that?” King Buzzo said in a statement.

The Australian tour comes off the back of a 38-date run in the US, and will see the veteran muso head coast to coast, starting at Adelaide's Enigma Bar on August 13, passing through Geelong, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra and Brisbane, before settling in Perth on August 26 for the tour's final show at the Astor Lounge.

The Frontier Members' pre-sale will run from noon on Monday, May 26, to the same time the next day (AEST), or until the allocation is exhausted.
