Melbourne Music Week is upon us for 2019 and it's already been a huge one. The festival has once more found its home in the Kubik Hub, this year taking over Alexandra Gardens.
Given its the festival's 10th anniversary, it feels fitting to throw it back to the Hub that started it all.
"This was the first year the concept of a Hub for Melbourne Music Week (MMW) was introduced, so there was the pressure to make it work," Chair Of The Arts, Culture & Heritage Portfolio, Councillor Rohan Leppert told The Music recently.

"It was also the first time that Kubik was built in Australia, with MMW partner Kevin Karlberg from Stable Music bringing the concept to Australia.

"Our team realised halfway through that the engineering certifications needed differed greatly from Germany, which made it a complex build. Ultimately Kubik was such a hit with everyone that we have decided to bring it back for our 10 year anniversary."

"Kubik was the beginning of a proper hub for MMW and it only seemed natural that we bring it back for the 10 year anniversary," said Karlberg.
"Originally, it was going to be a smaller installation but the MMW team really wanted to make it the feature of this year’s Hub and I’m really glad they did - it’s just incredible in Alexandra Gardens."
While at its core the concept remains the same, there are a number of changes for the 2019 version of Kubik according to Karlberg.

"This time around Kubik is almost double the height of the original Hub and is much more of an interactive installation that you can walk through all the while gaining glimpses of our magical city and gardens between the lights."
"The response from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive," he continued.
"Personally I feel that people have fallen in love with Kubik all over again and no matter which performance you attend it’s really a world class experience. Even before the lights come on after dusk – it’s just such an impressive structure."
Melbourne Music Week currently running and will wrap up on 23 November. Head here for all the info.
