26 July 2021 | 9:12 am | Staff Writer

Expressions of interest are open now.

Melbourne Music Week is set to return in 2021.

The much-loved event celebrates the city's iconic live music scene and is this year calling for expressions of interest from artists, venues and promoters who would like to get involved in the event from 3-12 December 2021.

Last year's event saw 72,000 attendees across the festival, adding $5.8 million to the local economy.

“Melbourne is renowned for its incredible live music scene, people love it and we are looking forward to bringing back the buzz through melody this December,” said Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp of the event.

“Before the pandemic, live music contributed roughly $1.7 billion to Victoria’s economy and created 42,000 jobs every year, so it’s vital to our economic recovery.

“More people back in the city and in our venues means more jobs, a boost to businesses, and a thriving Melbourne.”

“The music industry has been one the most impacted by the pandemic, with lockdowns, venue capacity limits and ongoing travel restrictions,” added City Activation Portfolio Lead Cr Roshena Campbell.

“Now more than ever it’s important that we support local artists, venues, promoters and businesses in every way we can.”

Artists involved in last year's Melbourne Music Week included Adalita, Blake Scott, The Merindas, Private Function and more.

Applications for this year's events are now open and will close at 5pm on Wednesday 11 August. Head here for all the info.
