In November and December, Meg Washington will play three shows across the country in support of her latest album, GEM, with her concert at Brisbane’s Playhouse set to be a special one.

Washington will perform at Playhouse on Saturday, 25 October, surrounded by dates at Melbourne’s MPAC, Monash University on Friday, 10 October, and Sydney’s City Recital Hall on Friday, 7 November.

The tour is in support of GEM, Washington’s first album of new material in five years. The album features collaborations with Aussie legends, including Paul Kelly (on Fine) and Kevin Morby (Golden Orb Blues), and contains the singles Kidding and Shangri-La.

She’ll be performing genre-bending songs from the album, backed by a full band. Along with the latest songs, Washington will perform beloved tracks such as How To Tame Lions, Skeleton Key and Lazarus Drug.

Independently released via her own Batflower Records, Washington said of the moving record, “This album is a message in a bottle; a record detailing the years I spent quietly alone on a deserted tropical island. Or was that a dream? It came from looking inward. It’s about finding something very precious within yourself.”

Meg Washington has developed an extraordinary career in music as a four-time ARIA Award-winning singer-songwriter, storyteller, and the voice of Calypso on the hit television series Bluey.

Her fifth album, GEM, isn’t only her name spelled in reverse, but it also insists on beauty even in the face of darkness. Washington’s GEM shows are dates you won’t want to miss.
