Today, Sydney singer-songwriter Meg Mac released a passionate, touching cover of British alternative-indie duo Good Neighbours’ anthemic song Home.

Mac first released the cover on YouTube earlier this year before taking it on tour with her supporting R&B artist Teddy Swims on his Australia and New Zealand tour throughout July. With the assistance of her sister Hannah on backing vocals, the cover struck a powerful chord with many fans and now exists in streaming form for us to rinse until our heart’s content.

On Instagram, Mac posted a clip of the cover from rehearsal to live performance en route to the Teddy Swims tour.

In the clip, a sea of lights flood the room as the Mac sisters sing Home to the audience, with Meg writing: “I said to Hannah we should play it live and if people like it maybe we could release our version one day…so we played it every night opening for Teddy Swims in Australia and NZ and we got a release date.”

The crowd reception throughout the tour drove Mac to release an official studio version of the song. Mac almost reinvents the song entirely on her cover, blending her and her sister’s soulful and captivating vocals with an innate feeling of warmth and connection that is authentically generated by the family ties the sisters share. It’s a comforting and reassuring note from one sister to another that home exists wherever the other may be.

The release of Home follows Mac’s only other release this year, Bricks, in collaboration with Matt Corby. Her first bit of music since her successful 2022 album Matter of Time, this collaborative single provides nourishment in ways that are almost indescribable. Simply set to lush melodic keys, both Mac and Corby muse over the song with as much soul as they can muster up.

In a statement, Mac said that she knew Bricks was best suited for a duet when she was writing it.

“So, I sent a voice memo to Matt, one of my favourite singers, not really expecting him to say yes. But a couple of weeks later, I was on my way to Rainbow Valley, where we finished writing the song and recorded it straight away with Chris Collins. I can't believe it's coming out this quickly, and now I have my first duet and I'm so happy that it is with Matt Corby,” she said.

Corby went on to say that the song came together as organically as possible.

“Meg is a great singer and writer,” he said.

“We were collaborating already on some writing, and she sent me an idea to see if I would be keen to write and duet with her. We jumped into the studio pretty much straight away and I’m loving what we came out with.”

While we’ve only heard from Meg Mac in delicate increments throughout the year, nothing fills our souls more than having this heartfelt, sincere cover to take us through to the end of 2024.
