Last week, Mariah Carey dropped the single Type Dangerous from her forthcoming album—her first in seven years.

In a new Forbes Africa report, it was revealed that Carey’s upcoming 16th album will be part of a multi-album deal with Gamma, a start-up that began two years ago under Larry Jackson's leadership.

Jackson co-founded Beats Music with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine and is one of the geniuses behind Apple Music. After seven years at Apple, Jackson launched Gamma in 2023. Forbes adds that with the technology platform, Jackson has signed deals with Usher and Rick Ross, plus took a stake in the Death Row Records archive, which Snoop Dogg purchased in 2022.

Carey said of her partnership with Gamma, which involves a multi-album deal, “What Larry Jackson is building at Gamma is beyond music. It’s a cultural shift, and I’m excited to be part of something that honours legacy while pushing boundaries. This next chapter is about owning my narrative and creating freely on my own terms.”

Mariah Carey co-produced her new single, Type Dangerous, alongside N.W.I. and Daniel Moore. The track samples ERIC B IS PRESIDENT by Eric B. & Rakim and blends Carey’s iconic vocals with a hip-hop beat.

She commented about the single, “I’m so excited to finally be releasing Type Dangerous into the world! I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with Type Dangerous!”
