Interested artists have a month to get their videos in
The shmick surrounds of Hilton Sydney's Marble Bar are always made extra alluring by the sounds of live music emanating from its premises, and to ensure that it has a solid supply of songsmiths on hand to please its patrons, the esteemed venue is bringing back its annual Facebook-based battle of the bands, Discovered At Marble Bar.
As of yesterday, entries are now open until 4 March for live bands and performers to upload a demo to Marble Bar's Facebook page with an eye to winning a two-month residency at the venue, worth a cool $10,000.
As would happen at any gig, from 5 March to 18 March the public will be the judge of your efforts, by engaging with the entries on Marble Bar's Wall, with total votes determining the top five entrants, to be announced on 19 March. The finalists will then battle it out at the publicly and professionally judged grand final on Wednesday, 25 March, in front of VIP industry folk, media and the evening's MC, with the victorious act walking out as fresh signatories to a two-month residency, playing every Wednesday at Marble Bar from April.
"Marble Bar is an iconic, intimate space that has seen some of the world's top music acts perform on its stage and there is no other bar like it in the city," Hilton Sydney general manager Ronald van Weezel said in a statement. "After the great success of the competition last year, we're again aiming to engage with Sydney's vibrant music community in an effort to foster the development of the city's dynamic music scene."
