After being caught with rifle.

A man has pleaded guilty to the possession of an unregistered air rifle after he and another man were busted by riot police last month while filming a music video.

As AAP reports, Paul James Nicholson pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing an unregistered firearm in a public place at Newtown Local Court yesterday, while fellow filmmaker Gawain Keith McGrath has pleaded not guilty.

Police were called to Faversham Street in Marrickville late last month after a man was spotted wearing a ski mask and carrying an air rifle.

Public Order and Riot Squad officers questioned the group and upon finding out that they were only filming a music video, they also discovered that the weapon was unregistered.

Court documents show the weapon was a "Daisy .177 calibre pump action air rifle".

Nicholson's defence lawyer, Jack Tyler-Stott, requested a "lengthy adjournment so that a (mental health) report can be obtained" in accordance with the Mental Health Act.

Nicholson and McGrath will return to court next month.

It is yet to be identified the band or artist behind the music video.

The Music has reached out to Tyler-Stott for further comment.
