Szubanski, Nankervis Named In Malthouse's 2013 Season

A wrap-up of tonight's announcements

Malthouse Artistic Director Marion Potts has unveiled the 2013 season and it's more independently driven than previous years, with three productions coming from the engine room.

Iranian playwright, Nassim Soleimanpourm's theatrical experiment White Rabbit, Red Rabbit will have its Australian premiere. This work requires no director, no set, and a different actor for each performance. These actors will include Alison Bell, Brian Lipson, RocKwiz's Brian Nankervis, Sam Pang and Magda Szubanski (who was a guest judge on I Will Survive last week).

Dance Of Death a black comedy from Swissman Friedrich Dürrenmatt. To be directed by Matthew Lutton (On the Misconception of Oedipus). It will star Belinda McClory (The Matrix) and Jacek Koman, who is about to grace our screens in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby with Leonardo Dicaprio. William Zappa will star Australian drama Hate from playwright Stephen Sewell and directed by Marion Potts. David Chisholm will score Angela Carter's 1979 feminist novelette The Bloody Chamber with Alison Whyte to star. Toby Schmitz will adapt Evgeny Shvarz's 1944 play The Dragon with Nikki Shiels and comedic trio Tripod playing said Dragon.

The Shadow King is a reworking of King Lear with the focus of this tragedy on Indigenous Australia's history, created by indigenous elders, Michael Kantor and Tom E Lewis. Newly-appointed Artistic Director of Chunky Move, Anouk van Dijk will present 247 Days. Lally Katz's new play Stories I want To Tell You In Person will be directed by Anne-Louise Sarks and Laser Beak Man will end the season it's a collaboration between artist Tim Sharp, David Woods and Back To Back Theatre (Ganesh Versus The Third Reich) .
