Indie rock veteran M. Ward will be making his return to Australia early next year, announcing a special one-off show for February.

The show, billed as a one-night-only affair, will see Ward taking over The Night Cat on Wednesday, February 26th backed by his band The Undertakers. A seated and standing show presented in the round, the intimate event will see Ward and band performing an in-depth set showcasing his extensive musical prowess and back catalogue.

Ward’s return to Australia comes just over a year since he was last in the country, having kicked off a pair of national tours in 2023 to bookend the year. These shows were in turn his first visit to Australia since 2013, when a spot on the cancelled Harvest Festival saw him performing headline dates with Superchunk and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Having launched his musical career in the late ‘90s, M. Ward has always had a strong association with Australia, having toured here numerous times over the years. His first trek down south was in celebration of his Transfiguration Of Vincent album.

Most of his albums released since have resulted in local tours, though albums such as 2016's More Rain, 2018's What A Wonderful Industry, and 2020's Migration Stories and Think Of Spring had left him absent from our shores.

Alongside his eclectic solo career, Ward has also made up one half of She & Him with Zooey Deschanel, and part of the folk rock supergroup Monsters Of Folk. Sadly, neither of these acts have ever made their way to Australia. While Monsters Of Folk have been inactive since 2010, She & Him have been only sporadically active over the past decade.

Tickets to M. Ward’s upcoming one-off Australian show are on sale now.
