Louis Theroux Tops Spotify Viral 200 With 'Jiggle Jiggle'

In what could be seen as peak TikTok, documentary filmmaking legend Louis Theroux has been quietly taking over the social media giant with remixes and dance vids around his attempt at rap from a 2000 episode of his Weird Weekends series. 

Theroux travelled to New Orleans to interview musicians from the burgeoning rap scene and participated in a rap battle where he wrote My Money Don't Jiggle Jiggle, It Folds. 

Fast forward to 2022 and enterprising TikTokkers have remixed, remashed, re-rapped and even got their Grandmas to have a crack at the now-infamous lyrics. 

Theroux's distinctly proper English accent created a hilarious juxtaposition for the gangsta lyrics and what better way to make a joke funnier than to share versions of it incessantly for weeks on social media. 

This week the meme crossed over, hitting the Spotify viral charts both globally and in Australia, taking out the #1 position.

The song has the Snoop Dogg seal of approval with the rap superstar giving the tune a dancefloor twirl this week:

While Rita Ora has also gotten in on the act while... cleaning her teeth? I guess when born from Weird Weekends, why not? 

The phenomenon kicked off with UK rappers Duke & Jones creating the original 'remix' that has taken TikTok by storm, shining a light on their original material and resulting in a deal for them with an imprint label of Sony Music UK. 

This week a version by SOULGRABBER is currently at the top of the Spotify viral chart, indicating that this meme parade may yet have some way to go. 

So far Theroux has been quiet on the song's success.
