More Lorde More Lorde

Lorde announced her Ultrasound World Tour dates overnight, but there’s a surprising omission: no Australian or New Zealand dates are on the list.

Surely, the Royals singer has something special up her sleeves for her home fans in New Zealand and neighbouring fans in Australia?

Lorde said of the tour announcement, “I am going on tour in support of my new album, Virgin. Very proud and excited to be bringing my most talented friends in support.”

The tour begins in Austin, Texas, this September, and continues throughout the US before hitting Europe and the UK in November and December. For the tour, she’ll be joined by special guests Blood Orange, The Japanese House, Nilüfer Yanya, Chanel Beads, Empress Of, Jim-E Stack, and Oklou.

The full list of tour dates is below. Perhaps Lorde will return to Australia and New Zealand in early 2025 or plot a surprise visit before the Ultrasound World Tour starts in September.

Last week, Lorde announced her long-awaited fourth album, Virgin, after dropping the lead single What Was That in April.

Virgin is set for release on Friday, 27 June, via EMI/Republic. The album art features an X-ray of the singer showing a belt buckle, jeans zipper, and an IUD.

In an email to fans, Lorde said of the inspiration behind the album:

THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR. LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE. I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC. I’M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM. THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE.

Virgin is the follow-up to Lorde’s 2021 album, Solar Power. You can pre-order Virgin here.
