Calls for an Australian Music Hall Of Fame have been pushed for the last 15 years and now it appears we will finally have one by year’s end.
In a statement released by the Victorian government this week, the Australian Music Vault will open in Melbourne after Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, announced a new partnership between Arts Centre Melbourne and ARIA.
The Australian Music Vault will celebrate the past and present of contemporary Australian music, while a special section will be dedicated to physical memorablia and digital content on past ARIA Hall Of Fame inductees.
“The Australian Music Vault will turn up the volume on our local industry, providing a dedicated space to enjoy, celebrate and promote the successes of our nation’s music talent – past, present and future,” Foley said.
“This partnership with ARIA demonstrates and adds to the national significance of the Music Vault and Melbourne’s position as Australia’s music capital.”
Meanwhile, ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said of the announcement, “ARIA is delighted to be part of the Australian Music Vault, it’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase our rich history of ARIA Hall of Fame inductees and share with the public all that’s great about our Aussie music icons”.
The creation of the Vault means the Premier Daniel Andrews has kept an election promise made in 2014.
Ahead of his party's win in the last Victorian state election, Andrews stood alongside Aussie music mogul Michael Gudinski and Ian “Molly” Meldrum pledging a physical home for an Australian Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame.
