Local Festival Cancelled Over Bushfire Concerns

21 November 2014 | 9:53 am | Staff Writer

Crowdfunded Marmalade Skies will not go ahead next month

Boutique, crowdfunded festival Marmalade Skies has been cancelled over fears the event could be affected by fires.

The festival's organisers admitted the decision by the Goulburn Mulwareee Council to cancel the event was "devastating" but they fully supported the outcome.

"During a scheduled site inspection, Goulburn Mulwareee Council, alongside the local police and fire department, have decided that there is too great a fire risk for the event to go ahead on the weekend of the 12-13 Dec," the statement said.

"They have made this decision due to a range of contributing factors including a hotter/ drier than expected summer forecast and that obviously it is a new, untested location and the heritage values of the buildings located on the property.

"Marmalade Skies has been a strong supporter of the Rural Fire Service since our inception, naming them as our charity of choice. As such we respect the decision of Goulburn Mulwaree Council and are very sorry to announce that we have no choice but to postpone the festival at this time."

The festival said the outpouring of support from punters and the local community eased the pain of the decision, thanking all involved in the event, which was scheduled to take place from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 December.

"The response we have received so far to this unfortunate news, from artists, management, partners and contractors has been overwhelmingly supportive," the statement continued.

"We are so lucky to be working with such an amazing team who are so passionate about this project. To them we can only say a GIANT thank you and that we will get there."

The event said they were hoping to secure another date for Marmalade Skies and urged those who donated to their Pozible campaign to be patient and "allow us to prove you right". A refund option for ticketholders will be organised once the new date, location has been confirmed. Any enquiries should be emailed here.

Marmalade Skies was to play host to artists such as Fishing, Brave, Castlecomer, Airling and many more.
