The place where Mojo Juju got her start is no more

A popular music venue in Newcastle has burnt down earlier today, according to reports on the Newcastle Herald.

The Morrow Park Bowling Club in the suburb of Wickham caught fire around 2am with around 5 people inside at the time. There have been no reports of injuries at this point. The nearby rail line was closed for a period of time while about 25 firefighters were called upon to contain the blaze.

Melbourne-born musician Mojo Juju, formerly of Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants, took to her Facebook to express her sadness at the loss of the venue where her musical journey began when she moved to Newcastle a number of years ago.

"Today is a very sad day. The Morrow Park, the place where the Juju journey (and so many other beautiful creations) began, has burnt to the ground. In September 2005, I moved from Melbourne to Newcastle, and with a very special group of people we turned an old forgotten bowling club into an arts hub, a recording studio and a family home. I moved away from Newcastle in 2009, but this place will always be important to me."
