US artist Lil Nas X returns to #1 on the ARIA Singles chart this week with his latest single, Montero (Call Me By Your Name).
The rapper’s hit track had been climbing the Aussie chart since its release, and thanks to the controversy surrounding its music video and a Nike lawsuit, it’s finally reached #1 after previously topping the US and UK charts.
As The Guardian reports, Lil Nas X dropped his own sneaker, Satan Shoes, to accompany the track and music video, and shortly after its release, Nike sued the Brooklyn company who produced it, MSCHF, for trademark infringement.
The release was based on the Nike Air Max 97 and featured the company’s “swoosh” logo.
The shoes may have been recalled as part of the settlement, but there’s not stopping Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which is Lil Nas X’s second ARIA Singles chart #1.

Back in 2019, Lil Nas X spent 13 weeks at #1 in Australia with Old Town Road and was just shy of claiming the all-time record held by Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, which spent at 15 weeks on top.
Over on the ARIA Albums chart, the week’s highly unexpected battle for #1 has seen London Grammar debut on top with their third album, Californian Soil, claiming their first-ever #1 in Australia, while punk rock legends The Offspring debut at #2 with Let The Bad Times Roll, marking their eighth top ten album.
Speaking with The Music in regard to London Grammar's recently announced Australian tour, guitarist Dan Rothman said they made returning Down Under a priority.
“The UK is obviously the first place we looked at because it’s our home country and we knew that if we were going to play anywhere first it would be the UK given the situation, but Australia is the only other tour we have yet confirmed,” Rothman said.
“That just gives you some sense of what it means for us to come to Australia, it’s very, very, very high on our priority list.”
The Offspring’s latest offering marks their first new album in almost 10 years, and they’re also looking to reconnect with Aussie audiences, with frontman Dexter Holland and guitarist Noodles recently appearing on The Green Room With Neil Griffiths podcast and revealing they plan to make it up to fans for their cancelled tour.
