Lenny Kravitz’s Brisbane show on Friday night (21 November) took a shocking turn when an over-enthusiastic fan ripped out four of his dreadlocks as he performed.
During the encore at his shows, Kravitz traditionally walks through the audience while performing Let Love Rule. It was this moment of the set on Friday when a fan pulled out four of the musician’s dreadlocks.
Reacting to the moment, Kravitz addressed fans via a video posted to social media. “So, when I went up to Let Love Rule, a very excited young lady pulled four dreadlocks out of the back of my head,” he said calmly in the video.
Kravitz continued, “You know how hard you gotta pull to rip those out of my head? Damn, baby. Anyway, I’m not gonna stop coming out there for Let Love Rule because that’s what we do. That’s our moment together. Brisbane, you’re wild. I love you.”
Despite calmly addressing punters, the incident looked like it hurt. You can see footage of the moment below.
As Stereogum notes and The Music has previously reported, the incident follows a recent disturbing trend in which fans have grabbed artists in public, including Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.

Lenny Kravitz is currently touring Australia for the first time since 2012; he continues the shows tomorrow night, with dates in Melbourne, Mildura, and the BP Adelaide Grand Final on Saturday, 29 November. He’s joined by special guests Jet on this tour.
In a recent interview with The Music, Kravitz opened up about his long-awaited return to Australia and his previously axed tour dates due to COVID-19.
“We were supposed to come there a few years ago, unfortunately, when COVID started,” he said. “That cut my Australian tour, so we weren't able to make it on that cycle. And of course, I've been touring now for about two years on this album. So, it was very important to me to get down there, see everybody, and celebrate together.”
He continued, “I was pretty much stuck here in the Bahamas for three years. But in that time, I was quite productive, and I made two albums – well, three albums – during that time. Blue Electric Light being the first, and there’s two more.
“So that will enable me to continue for the next several years without a break.”
